A bit about Brian and Benn's MP3 Movie Talk Show: Benn Farrell and Brian G. Felts began developing Brian and Benn's MP3 Movie Talk Show in March of 2005. After creating a format to attract both young and middle-age moviegoers, the two began rehearsing the show within a 30 minute run time through the month of April. On Monday, May 2, 2005, Brian and Benn's MP3 Movie Talk Show made its debut with associate producers Mark Tachna of Colorado Springs Video, who provided the show with its music, and Scott Bechberger, who contributed material as well. The show was originally recorded with a mini-DV camcorder and edited on an iMac. The finished product was later transferred into an MP3 and uploaded from a PC. Shortly after the debut of the show, the producers added its first regular personality, Natalie the Trivia Hottie. Natalie elevated the show's sex appeal as she explained the rules to its weekly trivia contest. She left the show after two months for other endeavors. As Brian and Benn found a rhythm, they welcomed several special guests, mostly past and present friends of performing arts fields, to serve as the show's first guests including Carmen Aiello a.k.a. the Chicago Actor and filmmaker Jeff Bunzendahl (Wilson Chance) of Bunzendahl Brothers Productions. In October of 2005, Joan Gandy, a professional journalist, appeared on the show as a guest commentator. She became a regular of the following year with her monthly feature 'Gandy Rant.' Around that time, MP3 show producers entered a non-exclusive licensing agreement with Mas Chingon Records who provided the production with new music. In November of 2005, Tony Hughes became an associate producer of the show and helped the production make an upgrade in equipment and improve its sound presentation. That same month, after weeks of research, Brian and Benn's MP3 Movie Talk Show made its podcasting debut and began making its way up many podcasting directory chart lists. With more flexibility as a podcast, Brian and Benn decided to extend the run time of the show to 40 minutes, allowing for more fun-filled reviews and features every week. Shortly after the New Year (2006) and a four-week stint with special guest Viviane the European Hottie over the holidays, journalist Chris Michlewicz joined the cast as its official announcer. He was used to voice the show's sponsorships, special announcements and end-of-show credits. Around the same time, DockRat Entertainment entered another non-exclusive licensing agreement with Hammondbeat Records to provide the show with a new style of feature musicians. The show continued to grow, as did its programming. Brian and Benn added new music, new monthly features and eventually a new cohort, Kiersten the News Lady. With her experience in radio and print media, Kiersten took over reading the show's entertainment news stories and added a well-complimented dynamic to the show. Brian and Benn's MP3 Movie Talk Show celebrated its first anniversary on Tuesday, May 2, 2006, after moving to Tuesday nights to allow a more flexible production schedule. With an intent to add more personalities to the production, Brian and Benn began to welcome more reoccurring voices to its cast including Jon Baird, Chris Lawson and especially Gabriella in one of the show's sexiest features yet. The show began to take on a life of its own. The extended cast became its strength with the hosts making phone pranks on its regulars and other irreverent foolery. Through the summer of 2006, Brian and Benn's MP3 Movie Talk Show tripled its audience and soon asked for assistance with a marketing package and campaign from Platinum Marketing Solutions. After struggling through a lackluster year of Hollywood releases, January of 2007 proved to be an exciting month for the production. The MP3 show was invited to be pre-subscribed staple of new software created by Archos, Inc. for the company's portable media devices. In addition, the producers found an amazing response to its second annual BBMC Movie Awards promotion with ten fold the number of participants it had in the year previous. Over the coming summer, the show reached new heights in popularity within podcasting directories and on iTunes; however, later that year, Nov. 13, 2007, Benn's mother, Beverly Lousie Oliver-Farrell passed away following a stroke that summer. Benn struggled to continue his duties as the show's producer, and BBMC was only able to release three episodes over the following four months. The show went on hiatus, missing its 2007 BBMC Movie Awards show and its special anniversary show in May. After an eight-month hiatus, Brian and Benn's MP3 Movie Talk Show finally made its return to the mics on Aug. 9, 2009, Benn's birthday. Brian had since relocated from Castle Rock to Denver, and Benn moved from Castle Rock to Colorado Springs and back to Castle Rock with a few months. The duo made up for missing its 2007 movie awards show by having its special annual promotion in December 2009, preparing for the 2008 BBMC Movie Awards nominations to be released. On Jan. 17, 2009, the DockRat Entertainment family suffered another loss with the death of producer and long-time friend Scott Bechberger, 35, who had made several appearances on the show over its run, due to complications with Seratonin Syndrome. The loss, coupled with technical problems, kept the show away from production for about five weeks. The show would return in February with the 2008 BBMC Movie Awards show. The following week, Brian and Benn honored Scott on its Feb. 24, 2009, episode titled "Remembering Scottie B." Brian and Benn's MP3 Movie Talk Show continues to provide a down-to-earth, non-pretentious and approachable source of weekly entertainment for many movie enthusiasts who are--like the show's hosts--exhausted by the low-quality of many Hollywood releases, coupled with ticket prices rising as fast and dramatic as the price of gasoline. |
