Basic Instinct 2 (2006)reviewed by Brian "The Naked Gun" Felts
Wow, does that suck! I not only can't understand why this movie was made, but why did the producers think that this would be at all a remote success. Even if you ignore the fact that this story is almost exactly the same as the first, its only real selling point is the nude scenes of its main character, Sharon Stone, who is 48 years old. Sure she has a nice body for a 48 year old but why does a Oscar ® nominated actress has to digress to do this performance. This movie is easily the worst of the year, which is saying something and one of the top five worst movies in the last 5 years.
Once again Catherine Trammell, played by Sharon Stone (Casino,) is accused of a murder of a famous person, this time a British Soccer player. However, instead of f*cking with a San Francisco cop's mind, like in the first movie, this time she is f*cking with a London Police Psychiatrist Dr. Michael Glass, played by David Morrisey (Derailed.) Of course like in the first movie, Glass is damaged goods with a record of having a patient under his care killing someone and of course Trammell uses that to her advantage. Basically it's the first movie remade 14 years later, except this time it sucks.
Everything about this movie is awful. The language, plot, action, acting, I mean there is nothing salvageable. If Sharon Stone was so terrible at acting in this movie then her nude scenes would have made this movie LESS painful. But for whatever reason, every other word out of her mouth is f*ck, or cum, so why bother to pay attention to the body when you are turned off by the mouth. It was obvious that she was trying to turn her Catherine Trammell character into a female Hannibal Lecture but even if Hannibal Lecture was portrayed by Keanu Reeves she still couldn't have matched up to surfer dude. I also want to know how much money she paid to get her body into that kind of shape. Some plastic surgeon must be happy.
Another way we can tell how bad this movie really is is by looking at the list of actors that turned down the leading role for various reasons. They are Robert Downey Jr., Kurt Russell, Pierce Brosnan, Bruce Greenwood, Viggo Mortenson, Benicio Del Toro, and Aaron Eckhart, supposedly Harrison Ford was "in the running." This is not a list of no names that turned down the leading role. When Oscar ® nominated actors are fleeing this role, how bad is this movie?
I am finished. The only other thing I can say about this movie is that I am amazed that there is talk of a third movie with Sharon Stone directing. This is a bad movie and should never have been made, especially for $70 million. If you like this movie you need help.
