This is an entertaining adult comedy with a message that states basically that fame and fortune are not necessarily a good thing. The movie is quite entertaining and should be on your viewing list.

"Calendar Girls" is a movie based on the true events of a English Woman's church group that got together to pose nude for a calendar to sell for charity to raise money to buy furniture for a hospital waiting room. Anne Clarke, played by Julie Waters (Harry Potter movies,) loses her husband to cancer and her friend, Chris, played by Helen Mirren (Raising Helen,) comes up with the idea that they along with 9 other women should pose nude for the calendar. They are able to convince the church group leader to Okay the event and put the calendar for sale. The women become famous international and appear on the Jay Leno show. However, Chris has problems at home with her son and her husband. One of the ladies, Ruth, discovers that her husband is having an affair. Julie, who's husband this is for, begins to have doubts with the popularity of the calendar and how far they should go to make money.

I found this movie to be quite funny. I enjoyed the relationships created by this ensemble cast and even though the story quickly gets to the death of Julie's husband, it doesn't take away from the sadness of the situation. The cast was very strong and had no weak links.

The story is quite interesting in that not only do the women have the support of their husbands but the entire community. However I do like the emphasis that this movie puts on the lives of these women after they reached their fame. Chris's family begins to go through troubles when her husband is tricked by a journalist to give up personal information about their sex lives gets printed in the tabloid newspapers. Anne begins to have doubts whether the popularity is taking away from the goal of the calendar. Nice character development, which makes up for the quick beginning of the death of John Clarke.

This movie is not for everybody, especially in my demographic, but is quite enjoyable, if you can get through the thick British accents. However, as much as I liked it I can't say that I will see it again.
