Equilibrium (2002)reviewed by Benn "Where's the Humanity?" Farrell
In a fascist governed future where all forms of feeling are illegal, an elite solider, played by Christian Bale (Batman Begins), in charge of enforcing the law rises to overthrow the system after he begins feeling for himself. The action shootouts in this film were preposterous and awesome. I nearly fell out of my seat laughing at how ridiculously cool they looked. I thought the picture carried an important message and it contained some very strong scenes, mostly involving Emily Watson (The Boxer). The fight scenes were somewhat like "The Matrix," but I think this material and message is far better than what that entire trilogy had to offer. Some of the sequences and scenes in "Equilibrium" were hoaky, but overall the picture deserves to be looked at, especially if you like these futuristic action films. Benn - Where's the Humanity?
