Just like
"Animal House" introduced naked girls to me, "Eurotrip" will introduce the first experience of "playing" with girls
to many boys ages 7-13. This movie is a must see, just because of the
sheer fun, harmless exploitation and wonderful one liners.
The story is by no means original. Scott Thomas, played by Scott Mechlowicz (nothing notable),
gets dumped on graduation day by his very hot, very slutty girlfriend Fiona, played by
Kristin Kreuk (TV's Smallville). To add insult to injury, Scott finds everyone
in his high school knows he's dumped, after the lead singer of a rock
band playing at a graduation party sings a song dedicated to Fiona, called "Scotty
Doesn't Know." The lead singer of the band is none other than Matt Damon (The Bourne Identity).
After
the party, Scott comes home and tells off his German pen pal Mike, who after finding out Scott
was dumped by Fiona, hits on him. What Scott doesn't know until the next
morning is, the male German pen pal Mike, is actually a female named Mieke, played by
German pop star Jessica Bohrs.
Scott decides to go to Europe and enlists his best friend
Cooper Harris, played by Jacob Pitts (K-19:the Widowmaker), to go with them. While in Europe, they meet two
of their classmates Jenny, played by Michele Trachtenberg (TV's Buffy the Vampire Slayer) and
Jaime, played by TV actor Travis Wester, who are backpacking through Europe. From
here on, it becomes a harmless sexcapade through Europe.
The movie is written and directed by Jeff Schaffer--his first, and also written by Alec Berg and
David Mandel. These three men are responsible for the galactic piece of crap, "The Cat in the
Hat." I would say this is a remarkable improvement. While this movie is by no means
groundbreaking, they do provide a lot of humor to the story. I find this movie much more
enjoyable than "Old School." I also like this movie a lot, because it takes place in Europe;
I am a sucker for that.
This is a good starter movie for all actors. None of them did anything embarrassing, and the
nudity and sexual innuendo is harmless. Throw in cameo's by Damon, Lucy Lawless (TV's Xena) playing
Madame Vandersexxx, Diedrich Bader (TV's Drew Carey Show) and a wonderful music video shot of David
Hasselhoff (TV's Baywatch) who is standard when making fun of Germans nowadays. This is a pretty good movie, and
will be loved by all males and probably ignored by the females. Hey, since when do female moviegoers like
looking at naked breasts? Brian - the Naked Gun
I had no care to see this movie, so of course Brian had to be the one to show me it. Yes, I
laughed a bunch. It is very mindless, filled with juvenile sight gags, sex jokes and
everything else the Clinton White House was known for. So, of course, I laughed and did
enjoy it.
Now for the enjoyable elements. The picture has a fun up-and-coming comedic cast. It is
well directed for comedic timing, and if you love making fun of European stereotypes, this will
have you on the floor.
However, Brian is correct. The story is not even close to original. It is basically a version of
"Roadtrip" which crosses an ocean. I will even go so far as to say this sort of comedic
storyline was inspired by rebellious French playwright Moliere, but with lots of boobs and a couple
cheeks. It just falls short of bringing out a rubber chicken.
So, if you have a low tolerance for tasteless laughs, then you may want to check this one out. Those
of you who look for substance in film and expect your choice of films to have something to say
about society at large, cross this one off your list. Benn - Where's the Humanity? |
