The Glimmer Man (1996)reviewed by Benn "Where's the Humanity?" Farrell
I'm going to sure a secret with you. Steven Seagal is not a good actor. Keenan Ivory Wayans is not a good actor. Teaming them up in a movie is hostile to the viewer. In "The Glimmer Man," two cops, played by Seagal (Marked for Death) and Keenan Ivory Wayans (Low Down Dirty Shame), are forced to work together to solve a chain of mysterious killings by a serial murderer named the Family Man. Both Seagal and Wayans proved why they are no longer acting on the big screen anymore; a big screen just magnifies the crappy performances they give and how little they know about acting for the camera. Wayans CANNOT play a tough cop. He proved that in "Low Down Dirty Shame" among others, and Segal is not a character actor, so the whole Tibetan religion crap was worthless cause he couldn't sell it. Seagal knows as much about character acting as a cow knows about the aspects of a Monet painting. A big problem I had with the picture was the fact that Seagal was playing a cop, but every time he was in front of a perpetrator, he'd kill them with one shot to the heart. Cops are trained to shoot for the opposite shoulder or the leg. Seagal wouldn't even try; one shot-kill, that's his only option. Director John Gray has been working in television ever since this movie. I hope he stays there. He seems to be doing well having crossed over. Overall, this picture is about as pointless as almost every other movie world renowned wife-beater Steven Seagal has starred in. Benn - Where's the Humanity? |
