Hot Tub Time Machine (2010)reviewed by Brian "The Naked Gun" Felts
That's right, they made a movie called Hot Tub Time Machine. That alone should tell you that this is a classic for the ages. Is this movie good? Absolutely not. Should you watch this movie over and over again? Absolutely.
Three childhood friends who lost contact as they became adults have all fallen on hard times. Adam, played by John Cusack (2012,) and Nick, played by Craig Robinson (Zack and Miri Make a Porno,) take their suicidal friend Lou, played by Rob Corddry (W.,) to Kodiak Valley a party ski resort town in the 80's where they experienced their last hurrah. Unfortunately Kodiak Valley in 2010's is a near ghost town and the resort is a dump. They try to make the best of it by getting in a hot tub and getting passed out drunk. They wake up in 1986 and try to relive the past and get back to 2010 and also figure out where they lost their way.
So obviously growing up in the 80's this move makes me giggle a lot. The ski slopes filled with people wearing florescent yellow, pink and blue's were awesome. The movie also has some icon's of the 80's, John Cusack, of course, Crispin Glover (Back to the Future,) and even an incredible old Chevy Chase. Of course there is the music that is great as well. It's basically one big party with alcohol, sex and drugs, so it was …The 80's.
The theme of the movie is the concept of reliving the past and trying to avoid the mistakes that everyone makes. The movie is pretty cut and paste at that point. The best thing about this is that the trio also have brought Adam's nephew Jacob, played by Clark Duke (Kick Ass,) and he is trying to get the three guys to do the same things and not change them because he fears that he will not be born, since this was the weekend he was conceived. There are many hilarious scenes with him and the guys.
I like the movie, I own the movie, and it is awesome. I will tell you to rent it and watch it. But I will not tell you it is good. But it is freaking awesome.
