"Mindhunters" is about a group of FBI profilers who are secluded on an island to profile a new mock serial killer. However, the group has to start profiling each other when their lead agent is murdered in an elaborate trap. They determine one of THEM is the killer and thus our thriller is born. The picture's director Renny Harlin (Cliffhanger) doesn't exactly have a great track record of pictures, including the phenomenal flop "Cuthroat Island." This picture's material kept me interested. The mystery of the plot had me involved, but some of the characters were simply not well written. For instance, the character of Vince, played by Clifton Collins Jr. (The Rules of Attraction), was way over the top. His character's backstory was shallow but believable. However, his performance was way over the top in many scenes. Just about every actor in this has a moment where they and director Harlan could have made better choices. When the actual bad guy is revealed, it was a pretty good couple of twists. The killer's backstory was also a little tough to believe. He actually got hired by the FBI having these mental problems? I thought the FBI has these flawless background searches and risk assessments for potential employees, especially agents and profilers. Overall, I think I like the picture, despite looking like every over high concept thriller that usually make be cringe. I think you could de worse than "Mindhunters," but lets face it, no one is going to see this one once "Star Wars III" is released. I'd rent "Mindhunters" on DVD instead. Benn - Where's the Humanity?
I am not going to comment on this movie too much because Benn has already said so much. I was going
to give this movie a higher grade but as I was thinking about it I realized that there was a serious
time issue with the show. For the bad guy to do what he did, make his elaborate traps, he would have
had to know where the final training was going to take place, set the traps and execute them, particularly
when all of the agents have passed out and the bad guy has the time to drain one of the victims of all of
its blood. I highly doubt that there was enough time for him to drain a body completely and then write
the numbers in blood on the walls. No way. Because of this unbelievable time issue, the movie is just
not believable. Therefore, despite the good points of the movie, and there are some, and despite the
brief nudity given to up by Patricia Velasquez (The Mummy,) I am only going to give it an average
rating.
One last thing I will say is that I don't know why this movie was delayed so long in its opening.
It is not film festival worthy and it could have come out much earlier than a week before Star Wars,
poor planning on the producers' part. Brian - the Naked Gun
