The picture excelled at being mediocre. It’s definitely a family movie.

A newly hired night security guard at the Museum of Natural History named Larry, played by Ben Stiller (Meet the Fockers), learns an ancient curse causes the animals and exhibits on display to come to life.

Soon, he finds himself in the middle of a personal mess with his son and ex-wife and an inside job to heist the museum of a priceless item.

The performances in this picture were fine. Everyone did exactly what they were paid to do with one exception. Owen Wilson (You, Me & Dupree) did one of the best jobs of overacting since Jim Carrey’s Ace Ventura character. Wilson got on my nerve early and often. Even though your film is a family comedy, it doesn’t mean you have to sacrifice intelligent humor.

This story is extremely clichéd, but kids and their parents don’t care about that so it kind of doesn’t matter. There are very few laughs for an adult without kids to enjoy the movie with.

There are some very good special effects throughout the picture however, so it does have a couple visually redeeming qualities.

Overall, “Night at the Museum” is for children and adults who brought their children. And THAT demographic should enjoy the heck out of this film. I would also describe it as a lot of fun for some, but for others who look for a little more story and character development, even in a high concept comedy, this work is a disappointment.
