There isn't much reason to go to a movie like this except to laugh. "Over the Hedge" should make you do at least that.

A scheming raccoon, voiced by Bruce Willis (16 Blocks), cons a mismatched family of woodland animals into helping him repay a debt of food, by invading the new suburban development built while during hibernation season.

Eventually, the raccoon learns a lesson about life, family and himself, while his new friends help save him from the bear, voiced by Nick Nolte (Hotel Rwanda), whom he owes.

This picture had nothing new to offer. The plot points were all familiar and it didn't even attempt to break new ground; however, the gags and one liners in the writing are very funny, as well as a couple of the characters.

My favorite character was the squirrel, voiced by one of my favorite comedians Steve Carell (40-Year Old Virgin), who had plenty of catch phrases and funny moments for me to try and re-create in my daily life.

Willis offered a good straight man's role, while Gary Shandling (TV's Larry Sanders Show) was annoying as Verne the turtle. His character was the most cliched of all. William Shatner (TV's Boston Legal) was also a complete hoot as the possum father.

Overall, I think "Over the Hedge" is worth the price of admission. It's a laughable movie and provides a fun time for adults and kids. You can't ask for much more than that from Hollywood at $10 a viewing. It's just not that much of an original story.
