Most people who know me know I have a predilection towards movies about Ireland and its peoples. However, I have finally found a HUGE exception.

One of the worst movies I've seen recently is "Pete's Meteor," a complete waste of time of what could have been a touching story of forgiveness and redemption.

Mike Myers kind of stars in the picture, marketed as his first dramatic role. The man needs to stick with comedy. There were so many scenes Myers tossed away dramatically and gave no insight to his line readings, I couldn't tell WHERE he was emotionally at any time in the picture.

I also jeer writer director Joe O'Byrne who only has one other major movie credit to his resume, being a 1992 film called Korea. I'm going to guess it sucked also, cause based on "Pete's Meteor" the man has NO grasp on his own material. That's extra sad, especially since he wrote the damn thing.

The only way I can describe it is like a very bad community theatre production where Bob who works down the street at 7-11 came up with a script and gets all his drinking buddies together to perform it. Oh, and they all suck as actors.

"Pete's Meteor" follows Micky, the oldest grandson of Lily (Brenda Fricker - So I Married an Axe Murderer), as he lashes out at the world cause his folks were killed by an organized crime ring. Now the ring is after Pete (Myers) who takes responsibility for the parents' deaths and has been looking after their family since.

So here's the crappy story of the picture, a meteor lands in the back yard of Lily's home and scientist Hugh (Alfred Molina - Spiderman 2) claims it for testing. Micky and his siblings spend much of the movie's subplot trying to get it back. Frankly, I thought the entire storyline was futile.

O'Byrne should had focused more on the relationship with Micky and Pete, and he would have had a much more touching picture, but only if he didn't directed and it starred an actual talented dramatic actor like Daniel Day-Lewis.

My guess is, all the talented actors to play Pete read the script and turned it down cause they knew how stupid is was going to be. Myers on the other hand said yes to "Cat in the Hat," so I'm already aware of his tendency to accept roles in completely horrible projects. Brenda Fricker was the only solid addition to this otherwise suck ass picture's cast.

Overall, don't go searching for this one on the DVD shelves. Believe me when I say don't waste your time.
