This was a cartoon that was wonderful when I was a kid and was excited about this movie as an adult because Sarah Michelle Geller was cast as Daphne. The movie was pretty good and what they did with Scooby Doo was great, but the only reason I love this movie is because, well, Sarah Michelle Geller is in it.

The story is about how the gang is reunited to investigate the mysterious goings on at Spooky Island theme park. The owner Emile Mondavarious, played by Rowan Atkinson (Johnny English,) asks the group to the island because all of the kids appear to be possessed once they leave the island. Its up to the gang, Fred, played by Freddie Prinze Jr. (Summer Catch,) Daphne, played by Sarah Michelle Geller (The Grudge,) Velma, played by Linda Cordellini (Legally Blonde,) Shaggy, played by Mathew Lillard (Without a Paddle,) and Scooby Doo to solve the voodoo curse and to find who is behind it.

All of the actors did a very good job of portraying the Scooby gang, Lillard did a great job of doing Shaggy in a non-pot smoker way. Freddie Prinze was probably the weakest because I just don't see Fred as an ego manic idiot. But a lot of that could be because Freddie Prinze was typecast. No I am not saying that because he is married to my beloved Buffy.

Scooby Doo was, of course, computer graphics. But the director Raja Gosnell had the actors portay Scooby as a talking dog. I guess the best way to say it is that it seems like the world is full of talking dogs so everyone is used to it. I still liked it, even though my friend Tony always thought the best way to portray Scooby was to have Shaggy on pot all of the time and only he sees a talking Scooby Doo, while everyone else sees a normal Great Dane. Funny, but it wouldn't work for the kiddies.

Everything else was pretty much ok. I did like the fact that the story writers used Scrappy Doo as the bad guy, answering the prayers of most of the fans that hate that damn dog. Rowan Atkinson was his humorous self for what little he is in it, and I don't know why the band Sugar Ray was in it, except for publicity I guess. Maybe because it was that music was such a part of the cartoon and their style of music would be a 2000 version of music for the movie.

This movie is probably not as good as I think it is but hey, if Benn can like Spice World, I can like Scooby Doo.
