Brian Felts Scream 3 (2000)

The last of the three "Scream" movies was probably the least frightening and least humorous of the series. The reason is mostly because the writer was not Kevin Williamson but Ehren Kruger who did not invigorate the third movie as much as it needed. The story is the problem, as well as some of the acting. The movie is a nice ending to this entertaining trilogy.

The story picks up in Hollywood where Stab 3 is being shot when one of its stars and actual witness to the murders, Cotton Weary, played by Liev Schreiber (Spinning Boris,) was murdered along with his girlfriend and at the site was a picture of Sydney Prescott's, played by Neve Campbell (Wild Things,) mom. The police go to Gail Weathers, played by Courtney Cox (The Longest Yard,) to try and find out why the picture was there and if she knows where Sydney is. Sydney is up in the mountains of California and works as a teen crisis counselor is seclusion. On the set of Stab 3, Dewey, played by David Arquette (Eight Legged Freaks,) is a creative consultant and also protects actress Jennifer Jole, who plays Gail Weathers in the Stab 3 movie, who is played by Parker Posey (A Mighty Wind.) The killer attacks again and kills a actress Sarah Darling, played by Jenny McCarthy (Baseketball), and also contacts Sydney, via phone, and forces her to come out of hiding.

If the story was going to have a good twist, then Sydney should have been the killer. Not only is it a good twist but it is borderline logical. Instead the create a half-brother Roman Bridger, played by Scott Foley (TV Felicity,) to be the killer. While is background was cool, it still would have been better for the series to end with Sydney as the killer.

No actor stands out, but I will say that the cast of Stab 3 was well cast in that, Parker Posey's character was entertaining, and Jenny McCarthy's character had zero depth, maybe its type casting. I also though it was funny that Wes Craven broke Lance Henrikson out of the freezer and thawed him out to play the horror movie producer John Milton. There is also a great cameo by Carrie Fisher (Star Wars IV,V, VI.)

I will end this review just because this movie really doesn't deserve too much attention. I enjoyed the movie because it was a trilogy and I do own it. If you see the other two movies, you should watch this for the conclusion, but it's not necessary. The choice is yours.
