I can't find anything wrong with this picture. I think it's a great date movie and a decent story for being a legend from the Isles.

"Tristen + Isolde" is about the adopted son of the soon-to-be king of England, Tristen, played by James Franco (Spiderman), who falls for the daughter of the King of Ireland, Isolde, played by Sophia Myles.

Eventually, Tristen wins Isolde's hand for his adopted father, Lord Marke, without knowing who she really was and they spend the next few months have an affair in the shadows of the fledgling newly United Kingdom during the post-Roman empire years. The King of Ireland soon makes a dark plan to over throw the support for Lord Marke and divide England once again, so Ireland can take it over at a later time.

The picture took itself very seriously. The production design was very good, minus a couple of costumes that looked like they came fresh off the sewing machine. The look and realism of the picture was somewhere between the production design of "Braveheart," being great, and "A Knight's Tale," which was crap.

The love story between Tristen and Isolde wasn't too sappy to turn away guys who came to see medieval fighting. France and Myles did an exceptional unspoken job together, as did Rufus Sewell (The Legend of Zorro) as Lord Marke.

I really enjoyed some of the decisions director Kevin Reynolds (The Count of Monte Cristo, Waterworld) made but I thought the picture needed a bit more experienced D.P. to pull off his ideas better.

Overall, I think Tristen + Isolde will end up in my DVD collection, but only if I find it at a low used price. I did enjoy it and think it's great for both male and female on a date, and for a wide age range. I can't say anything negative about it. It was worth the price of admission.
