It's great. It's very real situations. Very lively characters with backgrounds and motivations left right on the table for you to take what you want from them. Even the most eccentric character, played by Mike Myers (Austin Powers) has back story which allows you to understand him better.

It picture is about Donna, played by Oscar winner Gwenyth Paltrow, a white trash woman in her twenties looking to get as far away from home as possible. She finds her vehicle to freedom in the airline trade by becoming a flight attendant. However, her dreams of working the international flights, based in Paris, is met with problems when she falls for Tommy (Marc Blucas) while working puddle jumpers out of Ohio.

As the trailer on this DVD, and in the theaters originally, gave the picture this feeling of a high concept comedy, but in fact it is a light hearted drama about human decency and understanding how to compromise a dream and actually still achieve it.

Director Bruno Barreto's vision on this was very placid, but did not hinder the film since the characters' inner motivations are what we care about anyway. The emotion of the picture was very justified and real. The dialogue was convincing and did not over express its more thoughtful scenes, a credit to first time writer Eric Wald who wrote the screenplay during a short attendance at UCLA.

Candice Bergen makes a pleasant appearance as Donna's mentor and voice of reason on more than one occasion. Rob Lowe makes a cameo as well.

I did like the special features on the DVD, especially a small documentary on the history of the flight attendant's role in the skies and air travel in general, definitely worth renting for many reasons.
