Here's a cute little Irish made flick that pokes fun at small time life and small town Irish, while keep a crisp sense of humor.

"Waking Ned Divine" is about Jackie O'Shea and Michael O'Sullivan as they attempt to claim the lottery winnings for their late friend Ned Divine. Divine had won the lottery and died of shock, but O'Shea nabs his ticket and while attempting to cash in, finds himself locked into a sea of lies.

However, as the story gets thicker, a representative from the lottery commission comes to the small Irish town, population 52, to verfiy Ned Divine's identity before awarding the prize. So, O'Shea goes to every person in the town to get in on the scam for a part of the prize money. The scam being, to verify friend O'Sullivan IS Ned Divine.

There is a series of small subplots among the townspeople, including Maggie and Pig coming to terms on getting romantically involved.

The picture is only 91 minutes long. Pretty short and sweet storywise with moments of black comedy thrown in, particularly when the old mean woman who goes to blow the whistle on the whole scam it hit by a car and knocked off a cliff while standing in a phone booth making the call. The moment was hilarious.

The late Ian Bannen (Braveheart) plays O'Shea, while David Kelly (Laws of Attraction, Agent Cody Banks 2) plays a hilarious O'Sullivan, the center of a now fairly known scene where he must drive his motoscooter bareass naked back to his home before the lottery rep gets there.

Writing for the picture, at the hands of writer/director Kirk Jones, is very original and crisp. His directing style was a little placid, but for this kind of quirky comedy, shot selections work best it the movie's eye isnt about stunning camera work.

If you dig Irish pics and dark humor from the Isles, this one should make you giggle.
