This movie is another cookie cutter comedy about a poor dumb plumber running for mayor versus the former President of the United States in a little hick town in Maine. While this movie is watchable, it is not going to be something that will be added to your DVD collection.

Welcome To Mooseport stars Ray Romano who stars as Handy Harrison the town handyman who is unable to comprehend that his girlfriend Sally, played by the ultra hot Maura Tierney, wants to be married and settle down. Meanwhile the former President of the United States Monroe Cole, played by Gene Hackman, who is divorced, and the most popular President to ever leave the office, is forced to move to Mooseport because the former first lady got everything else in the settlement.

The town council asks the President to run for mayor because the current mayor who is running unopposed dies. Handy, in an effort to show his girlfriend he cares about the future offers to run for mayor to without the council knowing until after the deadline. President Cole talks Handy out of running for mayor until the President starts hitting on Sally and forces Handy to go ahead and run for President anyway.

The movie is full of gags and clichés that are in other movies that represent a David vs. Goliath type of story. By no means is this a bad movie, it's just been done before. Hackman and the others do a nice job but it is not their best work.

The movie is something you can watch but not something to write home about. I watched because I love Maura Tierney. Maybe you should watch it for that reason too.
